New Delhi: Misplaced your Aadhaar card or need it urgently for some work? You no longer have to rush to the UIDAI website or dig through files at home. The Government of India has introduced a super easy way to download Aadhaar straight from WhatsApp.
This new feature comes via the official MyGov Helpdesk chatbot, which has been linked with DigiLocker. In just a few simple steps, your Aadhaar will land directly in your WhatsApp chat — safe, secure, and fully valid.
What’s Special About This Service?
- No need to visit the UIDAI portal or deal with CAPTCHAs.
- Aadhaar comes as a PDF file, which is digitally signed by UIDAI.
- The PDF is password-protected and legally as valid as the printed Aadhaar.
- Available anytime, anywhere, since the chatbot works 24×7.
In short, you don’t need to carry your physical Aadhaar copy all the time. A few taps on WhatsApp, and it’s with you.
How to Get Aadhaar on WhatsApp: Step-by-Step
- Save the number +91-9013151515 as MyGov Helpdesk in your contacts.
- Open WhatsApp and send a simple message: “Hi” or “Namaste.”
- Select “DigiLocker Services” from the menu that appears.
- If you already have a DigiLocker account, confirm it. If not, you’ll need to make one on the DigiLocker app or website first.
- Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number.
- You’ll get an OTP on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number. Enter it in the chat.
- The chatbot will show you the documents available in DigiLocker. Pick Aadhaar.
- Your Aadhaar card will be delivered right there on WhatsApp in a PDF format.
A Few Things to Remember
- Your mobile number must be linked to Aadhaar, or you won’t receive the OTP.
- Your Aadhaar must already be linked to your DigiLocker account.
- Only one document can be downloaded at a time.
- If a document isn’t stored in DigiLocker, it won’t show up in WhatsApp either.
Why This Move Matters
From banking to mobile connections to government subsidies — Aadhaar is a document Indians are asked for time and again. Losing a copy or struggling to find it at the last minute has always been stressful.
Now, with Aadhaar available on WhatsApp, citizens can access it instantly, without depending on internet portals or visiting government offices. It’s another step towards making Digital India a reality and putting essential services directly in people’s hands.
