West Burdwan: Tribal Welfare Association submits memorandum to Durgapur SDO with list of fake ST certificate holders.Non-Adivasis are snatching away the rights reserved for Adivasis in the areas of public representation including jobs and education. There is a lot of anger among the tribals about this.

For a long time, various villages or associations of the adivasis have individually or sometimes jointly submitted their demands to various authorities in this regard. However, the government did not show any help. The issue of issuing Scheduled Tribe Certificates to such non-Adivasis by the authorities is considered by the Adivasis of different communities as a conspiracy to destroy the Adivasis. To prevent this, the tribals submitted a memorandum to the Durgapur sub-divisional governor on Thursday, January 13 on behalf of the West Bengal Tribal Welfare Association. Representatives of West Burdwan Indigenous Villages and Indigenous Rights Forum were present as collaborators. A memorandum was submitted to the Durgapur sub-divisional ruler seeking the revocation of their certificates through a hearing with a list of names of several suspicious non-tribals. The members said that the sub-divisional governor has heard the whole matter and assured to take appropriate action.
At the same time, if no such action is taken in the next two weeks, the association has warned of a larger movement. State Secretary of West Bengal Indigenous Welfare Association Parshal Kisku and West Burdwan District Branch Treasurer Domon Kisku, Shailman Mandi on behalf of West Burdwan Indigenous Village and Shivan Kisku on behalf of Adivasi Odhikar Mancha were present on the occasion.
